BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS Day 32 - February 20, 2009
President Obama gave special praise to the White House information-technology office. The office devised software that allows the president to alter his Iraq withdrawal timetable six times a day. A software update may allow as many as ten alterations a day. The president rejected demands from moveon.org that he instruct the Justice Department to name the Republican Party a subversive organization. "This shows I can stand up to my base," Mr. Obama said, standing in front of the bust of George Soros in the oval office. The president fired General David Petraeus, head of Central Command, saying the general didn't understand the big picture. Mr. Obama replaced Petraeus with Senator Barbara Boxer. The president acknowledged that he was revising his stand on oil drilling. He will announce which way he's going after the next Gallup poll comes out. The White House announced that John Edwards will be joining the administration as an adviser on family issues. The White House statement addressed the question of Edwards's mistress and love child, saying the president felt this gave Edwards greater sensitivity to different kinds of families. The Washington Post reported that the president cancelled a planned trip to Venezuela because Hugo Chavez couldn't guarantee crowds as large as the ones that greeted Mr. Obama in Germany.
