BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS Day 13 - February 1, 2009
President Obama announced "Multicultural Children's Awareness Day" at the White house. He apologized in advance for the fact that all children will be screened with metal detectors and radiation-detection devices. "I know some of those cultures," he said. Howard Dean, a medical doctor who turned to politics, ran for president, and became head of the Democratic National Committee, has been named White House nurse. The president deplored the delay in confirming his choice for secretary of education. "Just because Bill Ayers planted some bombs in the sixties is no reason to reject him now," Mr. Obama said. The president noted that Ayers never bombed a school, "and courageously rejected pressure to do so." Mr. Obama said that he and Michelle would attend the world figure skating championships in Los Angeles in a few months. "I've always identified," the president said, "with those who spend their lives on thin ice." The White House announced that Samantha Power, the genocide expert who was fired by the Obama campaign for calling Hillary Clinton "a monster," will join the White House staff as counselor to the president. The Irish-born Ms. Power apologized publicly yesterday for her "monster" remark, saying she didn't mean to single out Senator Clinton, but merely meant that all Americans were monsters.
