BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

Day 31 - February 19,  2009

Based on new public-opinion polls, President Obama suggested that Iran and the Palestinian Authority be given electoral votes in the next presidential election.  And Sweden might be next.

The president, assessing his first month in office, said it was the most successful of any leader's in history.  Asked to point to a single accomplishment, the president replied, "atmosphere."  He did not elaborate.

Following his spirit of ecumenism, President Obama cut the ribbon on the new Church of the Global Warming, a local religious institution.  He also unveiled the church's symbol - a drawing of the Sun with one of those red traffic-sign bars slashing through it.

The president said he was only kidding in past remarks that he would authorize American strikes against Pakistan if necessary.  The president said he assured Pakistani President Osama bin Laden that he would never authorize irresponsible military force.

The president is awarding the Medal of Freedom to 559 journalists who helped him get elected.  Katie Couric said she was flattered, and that the medal was good for her ratings.

The president inveiled a revised tax package that would increase taxes on those he called "American's fortunate rich" - those earning more than $25,000 a year.  Secretary of Melting Al Gore added a provision giving a one-time $100 tax break to any family buying a Prius.  "This will change the world," Gore said.
