BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

Day 33 - February 21,  2009

As a gesture of unity, President Obama gave Hillary Rodham Clinton the drapes in the Oval Office.  Senator Clinton thanked the president profusely, then swiped the rug.

The president announced a new position on Iran.  He said the inevitable Iranian atomic bomb would give the mullahs new confidence to make the concessions necessary for lasting peace.  "We see it as a good thing," Mr. Obama said.  When asked how he could contradict almost everything he's said on the subject before, the president replied that it never hurt him in the election campaign, so why now?

Rumors swept Washington that Katie Couric, being eased out as CBS anchor, wants to become White House press secretary, to complete the job for the president that she's been doing all along.

The president called "provocative" a flight over Florida by Russian bombers based in Cuba, but said that at no time was Disney World in any danger.  "I'm tough on national security," he said.

Mr. Obama said he would personally accompany Secretary of Melting Al Gore to the North Pole to watch the ice melt.  In the meantime, Gore vigorously disputed stories that he'd ordered 500 heaters to be sent to the region to accelerate the process, or start it, or something.

Financier George Soros said that he was terribly disappointed in Obama's first 33 days because Obama hadn't yet surrendered to Al Qaeda.

Chris Matthews, watching the president slip in the polls, said that the tingle he felt down his leg last year when hearing Obama speak has been rediagnosed as nerve damage from a childhood ping pong injury.

The president declared as "unfriendly" the construction of a border fence between the United States and Mexico, and ordered it halted.  This comes a day after the Democratic National Committee announced the opening of its Mexico City office.
