BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS Day 34 - February 22, 2009
To mark George Washington's real birthday, President Obama personally cut down a cherry tree. When the press noted that it was on John McCain's lawn, the president offered to pay compensation in 1789 dollars. The president moved the little White House from Camp David to Berlin, explaining that they understood him better there. At the same time, Mr. Obama apologized for putting White House visitors to sleep with slide shows of his Berlin speech last July. The president conceded that people had been dragged off White House tours to fill the audience. President Obama rejected a petition to put Jimmy Carter on Mount Rushmore. He said every name on the petition was "Jimmy Carter." He did agree to put Jimmy Carter's likeness on a little hill in southeast Kentucky. The president said he would send Under Secretary of State Oprah Winfrey on a tour of Asian countries to improve relations and come back with Asian authors for Oprah's book club. The White House acknowledged a Washington Times story that former President Bill Clinton was on a list of prospective Supreme Court appointments. The president likes to make history, a spokesman said, and noted that Clinton would be the first disbarred lawyer every to serve on the court.
