BARACK OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

Day 43 - March 3,  2009

The president dramatically announced that he would lead the national effort for energy conservation by charging his iPod only once a week.  Mr. Obama, speaking of his sacrifice, held back tears as he made the announcement.

Mrs. Obama says she's receiving spiritual messages from Jackie Kennedy.  But she says she's having trouble figuring out what Jackie meant by "other women."

Secretary of State Chuck Hagel says he will put more pressure on Israel to make concessions, more pressure on Pakistan to make concessions, and more pressure on South Korea to make concessions.  When asked if he would put any pressure on America's enemies, Hagel asked, "Aren't those the enemies?"

The White House conceded that Secretary Hagel sometimes gets confused.  The president has sent him a map.

The Department of Energy announced massive new grants to develop alternative fuels.  Among the grants is $75-million to determine if the internet rumor that nail polish remover increases gas mileage is true.

President Obama said he was personally embarrassed that the Department of Education sent portraits of him to all American schools, with a gold halo around his head.  "It looks bad," he said.  "A gold halo implies wealth.  The halo should have been white."

The secretary of education said that the gold halo was left over from the BUSH administration and that BUSH was responsible.
