Actual headline from the Toronto Star:  First woman takes command of warship

Eve is back, stronger than ever.

Again, from the Toronto Star:   J.M.S. Careless, one of Canada's most distinguished historians and two-time winner of the Governor General's Award, has died. He was 90.  Careless died Monday, said Jane Abray, chair of the history department at University of Toronto.

Would you buy a book from a historian with a name like that?

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- When Dr. Lawrence Kutner killed himself on the latest episode of "House: MD," it was the beginning of a new career for actor Kal Penn.  The demise of Penn's character cleared the way for the actor to move on to another "House," the White House.  Penn, 31, will be an associate director for the Obama administration's Office of Public Liaison.  "It seemed like something I would enjoy doing," Penn said. "I figured it was something to do."

We will sleep more soundly knowing he's there.

The estate of Kurt Cobain has allegedly been looted by those put in charge of it.  So claims Rhonda J. Holmes, lawyer for Cobain's widow, the marginal Courtney Love.  Of Ms. Love, lawyer Holmes says, "Courtney noticed the money was gone when there wasn't any left."

Those sharp show-business minds.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A Sikh journalist threw a shoe at India's home minister during a news conference on Tuesday after getting angry with the minister's reply to a question about 1984 riots in which hundreds of Sikhs were killed.  The shoe missed Palaniappan Chidambaram, who leaned back to avoid it. He later smiled and asked security guards to take the reporter out of the room.

This is now becoming a tradition.  I want to see Helen Thomas throw a shoe, and miss.
