ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The only president who came into office facing a ''worse mess'' than Barack Obama was Abraham Lincoln, said George McGovern, who just finished a book on the Civil War president. Decades after his own unsuccessful bid for president, McGovern, a former history professor, sees similarities between the Honest Abe president and Obama. ''I really think he has some of Lincoln's qualities,'' McGovern said of Obama. ''The only president who inherited a worse mess was Lincoln, who inherited a four-year civil war that ruined the country.''
Lincoln inherited a four-year civil war that ruined the country? Didn't the war occur after he became president? Didn't it save the country? McGovern was a history professor?
From London's Telegraph: The Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has been attacked by his wife, who said she was 'suffering' from his fascination with young women. After the Italian premier promoted several actresses and showgirls as potential MEPs, Veronica Lario, a former actress herself, accused her husband of damaging the credibility of all Italian women by giving his political patronage to a bevy of beautiful women.
Hillary, give her a call. Sympathize, sympathize.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Three armed thieves wore the blue surgical masks now ubiquitous in flu-hit Mexico City to hide their faces as they robbed watches from a department store, Mexican media said Monday. Employees and security guards at a branch of the Sanborns department store told the daily Excelsior the thieves were able to slip through the shop Sunday without attracting attention as they blended into a sea of masked shoppers.
Are Mexican thieves opening up an imagination gap with American thieves? I worry.
Mr. Obama, generally credited by his supporters as the most brilliant and articulate man ever to hold public or celestial office anywhere in all of human history, seems to have some trouble when the teleprompter guy messes up. It happened yesterday, big time. It's here, on You Tube.
If this had been George W. Bush, network anchors would have gone hysterical. MSNBC would have broken into programs to announce a "presidential brainpower crisis."
