From The New York Post: "Pinch" Sulzberger Jr. is not having a great year. It got worse Thursday night in Brooklyn, where the New York Times publisher was at a concert by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Connie Francis. "About 10,000 people were there," said our source. "Marty Markowitz, the borough president, announced there was a celebrity in the crowd . . . Arthur Sulzberger Jr. . . . Dead silence from the crowd, except some scattered booing."
I'm surprised there were enough people who knew who Pinch Sulzberger is to have any booing at all. Brooklyn is not Manhattan. To The Times, it's a foreign country requiring visas.

SEATTLE — A Seattle bank teller has lost his job because he ran down a would-be bank robber and held him until police arrived. Jim Nicholson, who worked at a Key Bank branch, says he understands the bank's policy that employees comply with robbery demands and avoid dangerous confrontations. But he tells The Seattle Times that his instincts took over when the man demanded money during the Tuesday incident.
You'd think some compliments about his heroism would be forthcoming, then later a gentle reminder about bank policy. And maybe a promotion. But it's Seattle, which, like San Francisco, has its own way of looking at the world.
