FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 2009 CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela's socialist leader wished his hard-line Iranian counterpart good luck in his re-election bid in Iran's presidential ballot Friday. Speaking to supporters Thursday, Hugo Chavez called Mahmoud Ahmadinejad "a courageous fighter for the Islamic Revolution, the defense of the Third World, and in the struggle against imperialism" — a reference to the U.S. government's foreign policy. Friendship is such a cozy thing, isn't it?
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wellesley College has decided to create an international studies school named after one of its most famous alumnae -- former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Wellesley officials said this week that the Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs will begin classes in January. Albright will be the school's first visiting professor. But the current secretary of state, Ms. Hillary, is also a Wellesley graduate. She must be dying, absolutely dying.
THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2009 (AP) Police in Michigan say a man who held up a gas station left behind a major clue _ a piece of paper bearing a name and address. Police said they went to the address and arrested a 42-year-old suspect. The holdup took place Tuesday at a Speedway station in the Grand Rapids suburb of Kentwood. Sounds like the kind of guy who sits on the House Appropriations Committee.
From AFP: Lucknow - Colleges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh said on Wednesday that female students would be banned from wearing jeans and other Western clothes to halt sexual harassment by male classmates. "Girls who choose to wear jeans will be expelled from the college," Meeta Jamal, principal of the Dayanand girls' college in Kanpur city told AFP. "This is the only way to stop crime against women." A bit medieval, don't you think? By the way, sexual harassment in India is known as "Eve-teasing."
