SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 9:07 P.M. ET:

ART FOR OBAMA'S SAKE – They gave out the Kennedy Center Honors tonight.  Notice the excitement?  Among the "honorees" was David Letterman, known recently more as a major flack for Barack Obama than for any comic talent that might remain.  I remember the days when they'd give the Kennedy Center honor to actual artists like Leonard Bernstein and Leontyne Price.  Of course, we had actual music then also.

AND MORE FOR "THE ONE" – Sometimes I think the White House learned PR from the old Soviet apparatchiks.  Well, some of the current White House hands might be old Soviet apparatchiks.  (Just kidding, just kidding.  No I'm not.)   They manage to get a picture of Obama into almost everything, including commemorations of other people's triumphs.  The latest, according to Fox:  "To honor the 57th anniversary of the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus, President Obama paid homage with a picture of himself."  The photo shows Obama sitting on a bus, alone.

MAYBE SHE REALLY ISN'T RUNNING – Much buzz on the internet about a statement Hillary Clinton made to a Mideast forum, suggesting that Israel lacks generosity toward and empathy for the Palestinians, whom she described as "an oppressed people."  Perhaps Ms. Hillary can explain how much empathy she'd have if someone were shooting rockets at her family's house.  She might also notice that the Palestinians are oppressed mostly by their own leaders, and by Arab dictators who've used them as propaganda pawns for about 65 years.
