BULLETIN:  SCOTT TO U.S. SENATE – AT 9:56 A.M. ET:  A number of news reports in the last hour say that Republican Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina has selected Congressman Tim Scott of Charleston to replace Senator Jim DeMint, who has resigned to take another position.  Scott will become the only African-American in the U.S. Senate.  He was also DeMint's choice.

I ask for immediate medical care for the Democrats who will have heart attacks over this.  What?  A black Republican senator?  How dare they?  Isn't this against the law?

It is reported that ambulance sirens are now being heard in Washington as medical personnel rush to the Capitol to treat staggering Democrats.

Tim Scott is a great guy.  He'll make a terrific senator, and has an inspiring life story.  From The New York Times:

Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina has chosen Representative Tim Scott to replace Jim DeMint in the United States Senate, according to three Republican officials. The move will make Mr. Scott the first black senator from the South since the late 19th century.

The governor will make the announcement at noon at the Statehouse in Columbia, S.C. She began informing the roster of finalists on Monday morning about her decision to go with Mr. Scott, who was the preferred candidate of many conservative leaders and groups in Washington.

Ms. Haley seriously considered a number of potential contenders, particularly Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former Gov. Mark Sanford, who had been supportive of Ms. Haley in her race two years ago. But in choosing Mr. Scott, she selected a senator with a strong conservative voting record during his two years in Congress.

Additionally, Mr. Scott offers a unique story and background, one that is in scant supply in their party right now. Raised by a single mother, he was, by his account, a lost child who struggled with school and with life until a Chick-fil-A franchise owner took him on as a protégé and schooled him in conservative principles.

COMMENT:  Oh dear Lawd.  Chick-fil-A.  Remember?  That's the chain the left wanted to boycott because the founder believes in traditional marriage.  Oh no.  This is the end of the world for some of our fellow Americans.  A black Republican senator schooled by Chick-fil-A.

We now are hearing that medivac helicopters have landed on the lawn of the Capitol.  Barbara Boxer has been taken out gasping.  Chuck Schumer is demanding a recount.  When informed that the new senator only had to be selected by one person, the governor of South Carolina, Schumer still demanded a recount.

History is made.  Hah, hah, hah.
