SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 9:40 P.M. ET: SICK IN BERMUDA – The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that workers who get sick on their vacations are entitled to take another. The ruling will apply to workers in all 27 EU countries. There is no word on whether workers who dislike the view from their hotel rooms are entitled to a different view, but we're sure that's coming. MORE HELP FROM MOSCOW – In another sign of how well Obama's "reset" of relations with Russia is going, Moscow is warning us not to threaten Iran over its nuclear program. It is also saying that a quick solution to the Iranian nuclear standoff is "unrealistic." In fact, negotiations over the program have been going on for years. Once again the Russians show utter contempt for American concerns, undoubtedly a reflection of the fact that Obama sends out signals of weakness and vacillation, not strength and determination. INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN – Political observers are noting that President Obama's attempts to raise money from Americans living abroad has reached levels never before attempted in a presidential campaign. It's entirely legal. More than a dozen bundlers abroad have pledged to raise $4.5-million. In 2004 both presidential campaigns took in a total of less than a million dollars from Americans living in foreign countries. Obama's extra effort overseas may be related to a decline in collections stateside. The enthusiasm isn't what it was in 2008. June 23, 2012 |
