William Katz:  Urgent Agenda

PETRAEUS – So, consider, the most illustrious member of the Obama administration, David Petraeus, resigns three days after a presidential election and a week before he's scheduled to testify about the disgraceful failure in Benghazi.  The reason:  an extra-marital affair.  Now, look, I have no inside information on this.  I don't specialize in extra-martial affairs.  But are we supposed to believe that the White House didn't know about any of this until after the election?  I suspect there's something more here, but I don't have the proof, so I'll just mischievously raise the possibility.

CRISIS! – There is a crisis at the Harvard Business School.  It seems that an Israeli buffet being run in the dining hall listed two foods that weren't actually Israeli, and an Arab graduate of Harvard has raised major objection.  The school has expressed profound grief at having offended Arab sensibilities.  It is seeking ways be insure that such a wound is not inflicted again.  We note that this mea culpa occurred on a day when the UN announced that 30,000 people have been killed this year in Syria.  I think the operative term is "misplaced priorities."  Another operative term might be "extreme immaturity."  You'd think an Arab graduate of Harvard would have more important things to worry about.

SANDY – Would you believe that Hurricane Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane, is still a major factor in New York?  Hundreds of thousands are still without power.   Local governmental authorities – I am not making this up – are considering using an abandoned prison as temporary housing.  (Can you just imagine if BUSH!! had suggested something like that?)  Another idea floating around is having the military come in and run the power grid. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who would like to be President Cuomo, is increasingly hysterical, seeing his popularity go down the drain.  And all the while, not one television news outlet has asked as single question about the inactivity of President Obama.  Contrast please with Hurricane Katrina.

AMERICA MARCHES ON – Why, aren't you impressed with the progress we've made since Obama was re-elected?  We learned today that the Interior Department is proposed to close 1.6 million acres of federal land in the West to oil shale development.  We also noticed that the stock market had its worst week since June, falling approximately 2.5 percent.   And companies have started to announce layoffs related to Obamacare.  Sometimes the voters do make mistakes.  According to the current schedule, however, they get a chance to start correcting them in 2014.
