BULLETIN:  PEACE IN OUR TIME? – AT 2:20 P.M. ET:  A ceasefire has, theoretically, just gone into effect in the battle between Israel and Hamas.

The annoucement was made in Cairo jointly by Hillary Clinton and the Egyptian foreign minister.

Both sides have committed to an end of hostilities, at least for now, and to examine the issue of easing the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which is aimed at preventing the flow of arms.

This is a ceasefire, not a permanent agreement.
