IS THE PLOT THICKENING AGAIN? – AT 8:24 A.M. ET:  Is there any end to the intrigue in Obama's personal Kremlin?  We know that he has already thrown Hillary Clinton under the bus, making her take the fall for Libya.  (I really doubt that it was her idea.)  Now, incredibly, there is informed talk that Bill Clinton, credited only weeks ago with giving a huge boost to Obama's campaign, is about to take his turn under the rear axle.   From Powerline:

If President Obama loses this election, the Democrats will need a scapegoat. The obvious scapegoat would be Obama himself. But he’s been getting free passes all of his life, and the left-liberals who comprise the Democratic mainstream will think long and hard about holding him accountable now. For one thing, he’s manifestly one of them. For another, he’s African-American.

Accordingly, the need for a different scapegoat would arise. That scapegoat would have to be someone significant enough to be plausible in the role and someone not strongly associated with the Party’s left-liberal faction. Someone like Bill Clinton.

If this sounds far-fetched — after all, Clinton helped confer upon Obama a Convention bounce — consider a piece by Matt Bai of the New York Times. Bai blames Clinton for persuading Team Obama to adopt the strategy of portraying Romney as a conservative monster instead of a flip-flopper. That strategy worked well for months, as Bai acknowledges, but seemed to backfire when Romney declined to play his assigned role during the debates. So Bai speculates that painting Romney as a flip-flopper was the better option.

COMMENT:  Oh, how lovely.  But may I propose an even more sinister explanation for our readers.  It seems to me perfectly obvious why the Obamans are working to discredit the Clintons.  Consider:

If Obama is defeated, he will not have served two terms as president.  He will be Constitutionally eligible to run again.  What, in his egotistical mind, would be greater than roaring back, reclaiming the Democratic nomination in 2016, and defeating President Mitt Romney?

I label this as juicy speculation, but it's entirely logical.   Obama knows he may lose.  Start planning now for that greatest of show-business stunts, the comeback.  And mission one:  Get Hillary out of the way.  Get both of them out of the way.

I can almost hear Michelle singing, "Don't cry for me, Harvard Law School..."
