BULLETIN – OBAMA SOARING – AT 9:33 A.M. ET:  Rasmussen has just published Monday's tracker, showing Obama with a powerful convention boost, much larger than Romney's.  Obama has clearly pushed into winning territory, although it's impossible to know if these numbers can be sustained.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows President Obama attracting support from 50% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns 45% of the vote. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

This is the president’s biggest lead over Romney among Likely Voters since March 17.  Obama’s convention bounce has been more significant than Romney’s. As with all bounces, it remains to be seen how long it will last.

And...

A president’s job approval rating is one of the best indicators for assessing his chances of reelection. Typically, the president’s job approval rating on Election Day will be close to the share of the vote he receives. Currently, 52% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's job performance. That matches yesterday’s total as his highest approval rating in more than a year-and-a-half, since January 2011.

COMMENT:  Rasmussen is now confirming Gallup's numbers.  Obama's convention bump is stunning, and we point out that much of the polling reported this morning came after the Friday jobs report.

We hope the hysteria subsides.  But it won't subside unless Romney gets going and articulates reasons why Americans should elect him.  The Republicans should have been on their best game this past weekend, but were barely seen.

We'll know in the next week or two whether Romney can win back the lost points at this stage in the campaign.  The true campaign begins today, the Monday after the conventions.  It's time for a sense of urgency.
