SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 8:35 P.M. ET: PETRAEUS A TIGER – Much buzz in the education world that David Petraeus, who received an earned Ph.D. from Princeton, has a strong interest in becoming president of the university. The current president has just resigned. Petraeus is, of course, the head of the CIA and a retired four-star general. We should note that Woodrow Wilson was president of Princeton, then went on to the governorship of New Jersey and the presidency of the United States. No doubt Petraeus's possible selection by Princeton would be met with a hail of fire from the politically correct leftist crowd, and he is considered to be something of a long shot. MORE FROM THE WORLD OF HIGH SCHOLARSHIP – A deep study has concluded, after much analysis, that 66 percent of those studied suffer from the dread malady of nomophobia. What, you ask, is nomophobia? It is the fear of being without a cell phone. I am not making this up. Go here for proof. "The 2012 study, which surveyed 1,000 people, found that people not only fear being without a cell phone, but almost half of respondents said they would be upset if their partner looked through their messages." This clearly requires coverage by Obamacare, and I'll bet it will be included. WHY IS HE EVEN RUNNING? – I've always believed that African-Americans are far too loyal to their leaders. But sometimes even black leaders demand too much. Reports from Chicago say that many of Jesse Jackson Jr's constituents are getting fed up with him. First, there were stories of an attempt to buy a Senate seat, although the stories were not proved. Now we have Jackson out of action month after month, suffering from some kind of mental disorder. Yet, he's running for re-election and is on the ballot in November, although he cannot make any public appearances. He has a Republican challenger, but it's unlikely that any Republican can win in Jackson's district, even if running against a dead man. It's an outrage. The people of Jackson's district deserve better. When Gabrielle Giffords realized she couldn't serve fully, she resigned. That is the correct course. September 29, 2012 |
