William Katz: Urgent Agenda

A GUY NAMED JOE Robert Novak is reporting that there's no chance that Joe Lieberman will be the vice presidential candidate on a ticket headed by John McCain. Lieberman, an independent Democrat, endorsed McCain, and it's generally felt that this helped the Arizona senator win the New Hampshire primary. But, as Novak points out, Lieberman votes a standard Democratic line on everything but Iraq, and would be unacceptable to Republicans. However, we can only wonder what Joe's future would be if McCain becomes president. He could probably name his cabinet post. He was attorney general of Connecticut, and attorney general of the United States would be a logical step. So would secretary of defense or state. Would a Democratic Senate block Lieberman? Well, maybe. But maybe they'd like to get rid of him, and again run Ned Lamont for his seat in the Senate. Remember Ned Lamont? Anybody remember Ned Lamont? He just endorsed Barack Obama.
