TECH AND INVESTMENT ALERT

There may be big news out of Macworld today.  Macworld, now on at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, is the annual prayer and revival meeting for we members of the "Macintosh community."  These days we must all be members of a "community," or we don't exist.

Today, Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, gives his keynote address, which is roughly the equivalent of the State of the Union, and with possibly equal economic consequences.  He often uses the keynote to introduce spectacular new products  The Apple website is featuring a logo with the slogan, "There's something in the air."   So, look for some major step forward in wireless.
It's speculation, but it's juicy.

A word about Apple:  It's just remarkable how Steve Jobs brought the company back to life at a time when Wall Street analysts were drawing up its death certificate.  In a tech company, the guy at the top can't simply be a "manager."  He's got to be a visionary.  The Michigan primary is being run today (see below), and that makes us think of our domestic auto industry.  One innovator at the top at GM might have turned that company around, but a culture that rewarded financial men rather than car men kept the choke hold going.

I recall a survey taken in the 1970s.  Questioners asked auto executives in Detroit what they did.  "We sell cars," was the answer.  The same questioners asked executives of Mercedes-Benz what they did.  "We build cars," they replied.  Notice the difference.
